About the Artist

Robin Angelides

Robin Angelides is a Southern California artist who fell in love with art and painting at the age of eleven. Her earliest artistic influence came from an uncle, a painter and collector, whose passion sparked her own. Introduced to oil painting and other art forms early in her journey, Robin developed a lifelong dedication to creative expression. She began her formal education with an Associate Degree in Fine Art and continued refining her skills in animation, attended prestigious institutions, including ArtCenter at Night, Otis College, UCLA Extension and Santa Monica and Los Angeles Valley Community Colleges. Her commitment to continuous growth is evident through her participation in various art group workshops and classes.

Robin’s professional path led her to Sony, where she excelled as a background artist in animation, demonstrating her versatility with landscapes. Her skills of perspective and creating structures allowed her to create scenes where figures and environments worked together. Alongside her artistic pursuits, Robin dedicated much of her career to nursing, continually nurturing her creative spirit and finding solace and expression in her art-a true testament to her dedication and resilience.

Now retired, Robin devotes herself full-time to painting and drawing in oils, pastels, and watercolors. Her preferred approach is plein air painting, where she can fully engage with the natural world around her. Painting outdoors excites her—she feels present in the visual sensations, watching light and color shift and transform. In these moments, Robin experiences a a deep connection to nature; plein air painting awakens all her senses, allowing her to capture the magic of light as it plays across the landscape, constantly transforming shapes, colors and atmosphere. She believes that “the more I look, the more I see.” Striving to balance realism and expressive looseness, Robin seeks to convey a spectrum of emotion in every science she paints.

Although she works in several media, Robin is especially drawn to pastels for their vibrant colors and versatility, while she finds the soft, creamy texture of oils equally inviting. The brilliant light and atmospheric energy of California continue to inspire her, fueling her creative process and imagination—whether she’s painting spontaneously on location or refining her work in the studio from plein air studies and photographs.

Robin has showcased her work in numerous live and virtual exhibitions, earning awards and recognition at prestigious venues, including the California Art Club, Haggin and Santa Paula Museums, and several pastel societies. Her painting First Day of Spring, honored second place in the California Art Club’s Excellence in Traditional Fine Art Competition, was praised by judge Mary Platt for its “Impressionistic strokes of the pastels and ethereal colors all work together to create a memorable mood, with purples and greens evoking a mystical aura.  The moon above adds its own magical touch.”

Artist’s Statement:

My artistic journey is a heartfelt dialogue with nature—my constant muse. Through painting, I immerse myself in the natural world, capturing its essence in landscapes, floral studies, still lifes, and figures. I focus on crafting compelling compositions that play with light and shadow, vibrant colors, and deliberate design of shapes to enhance scenes that evoke deep connections and emotional connection.

I find endless inspiration, painting plein air, surrounded by shifting light and color. My aspiration is to offer viewers an experience that resonates emotionally and pleases the eye. The greatest reward comes when someone feels drawn into my work—invited to step inside a painting or follow a path within it in those moments, I know my vision has truly connected.
